Jasmine Dukes is a Black and Puerto Rican visual artist, art therapist (ATR), educator, and mother with a home base in Jacksonville, FL. Her approach to art-making focuses more on the process than the final product. Creating her artworks, observing the final images, and moments of reflection serve as a therapuetic method of self-care and self-love, with the purpose of perpetual self-discovery and healing. The combined layering of fluid media and defined markings has allowed her the space for unmasking and radical honesty. Mother Nature and the dynamic between nature and nurture have been prevalent themes throughout her body of work. Shifts in perspective and wisdom gained through experiences over time show up through vibrant colors, bold motifs and ethereal details. Superimposed through her choice of media and expression of visceral emotions, Dukes’ current work focuses on her experiences through woman- and motherhood, its unwavering connection to both her younger and future self, and the desire for more strongly rooted connections within community.
Jasmine is the owner of a big, blue, antique camper van that has now been converted into a mobile gallery space and studio for creative exploration- Cerulean Studio. Purchased in 2019, Jasmine gutted and rebuilt the van with the purpose of traveling the United States and making art while on the road, documenting her personal journey on YouTube along the way. Now, Cerulean Studio (fka Beluga Becky) serves as a third-space-on-wheels for people to see art, buy art, and create art.
